Treatment of Intracapsular Fracture of Femoral Neck with Richard Nails

Abstract
The Richard nail, with telescoping device and impactor screw, provides compression at the fracture site and allows for bone absorption by extruding.
It has advantages as follows:
1) The spinal head of a Richard nail grips, the femoral head better than smooth surfaced ordinary nails.
2) The impactor screw narrows the gap at the fracture site during surgery and provides compressure.
3) The telescoping mechanism prevents penetration of the neck through the femoral head into the acetabulum.
The author reports here the results of Richard nailing for intracapsular fractures in ten caseo out of fourteen.
In the present series our assessment was radiological and by this technique we have found that 65.5% of the intracapsular femhral neck fractures united.
